The design approach takes inspiration from the property’s collection of historic religious and agricultural buildings, and site features – most notably the predominant material palette of concrete, stone and timber. Sited on a ‘knob’ of rolling and sometimes steep topography, among the forest and its stunning boulders; the new cabin takes advantage of all the natural surroundings, serene and quiet, peaceful and contemplative. Access to the cabin is singular and site-specific. The building is planned for placement on a crest that overlooks a detention basin. Careful positioning of the cabin minimizes its visual impact in the landscape and maintains important view sheds outward, alongside glass walls and corners positioned for maximal observation.
The building program is intentionally simple, with the allowance for single or multi-users, shower room, kitchenette, study/prayer area, and extended exterior relaxation space from entry thru to the rear.
