Amid a narrow street of shotgun houses, and set on an even narrower lot at just 17 feet wide … a dilapidated shotgun house was demolished to make way for a more contemporary house of similar size. Working with a very modest construction budget, the simple material palette includes cementitious fiber board cladding set vertically at the right and left elevations, and a stucco finish at front and back elevations. Natural light, intentional-limited material palette, and connections between indoor and outdoor spaces are the guiding elements of the design approach.
The house is minimal in design, with a disciplined approach to its form and layout. It includes multi use-function with a flexible one bed area, shower room, kitchen and sitting room. A built-in Murphy bed allows for office and other space uses when folded away. The house includes exterior relaxation space at the rear, and small entry porch at front.
